I have a 1997 Dodge neon DOHC 5-speed that needed a new computer/ecm/ecu/brain box (whatever you call it!). Since I had to match the year, engine, and tranny up it was difficult to find a used computer. After getting a few that weren't correct I finally found one and I had the dealership confirm it being correct. Now when I put in into the car it throws 2 codes. One being p0743 torque convertor (since the car is manual and the computer came out of a manual I don't understand where this code is coming from) and the other code being p1490, which is a low speed fan relay circuit. Interestingly enough, the fans will not kick on with this computer plugged in even when the car starts to overheat, but when I plugged in one of the wrong computers I have the fans work fine. MY QUESTION IS THIS: If I get the dealership to program into the computer the VIN and mileage (which is the only thing they can program into it) will it fix the problem with the fans and it throwing the torque convertor code, or is this computer junk? I don't want to spend $100 getting it programmed if the computer is fried. Please help!

not usually on a used one programming it isn't going to correct those problems, you won't get those codes unless it has the wrong computer in it ,chances of getting the right one are about 100-1 on getting one that won't give no codes, you can call them and ask if that will solve it but im pretty sure they,ll tell you that they ,ll try it and see,but you,ll have to pay for it,spending the 100 bucks may or may not fix this problem on it,so it could be 100 bucks wasted, that's the chance you take on a used computer, good luck.
I believe that even though you may have gotten that PCM-ECM out of a standard that the comp might have been changed by the previous owner and it had the wrong one in it.
I've like 7 or more used PCM's for my Intrepid and I can tell you from all my experience I've seen PCM's that run everything fine but odd codes or faults might exist via engine light codes and I've even seen a code 65 show up when the 3.3 engine has no such part in it.
I'am not sure how long ago you bought that comp but most wreckers will warranty such parts for at least 30 days and I'd tell them that the one you got from them isn't working properly and ask them to another one.Even if they don't have another one for an extra fee they can order one from the internet or from the many wreckers that ship parts to each other.
Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way that year doesn't require any dealership programming just be sure the replacement PCM is out of a car just like yours same engine, same transmission and same features such as cruise control etc.Otherwise certain features might need to be dealership or PCM re-builder reprogrammed.
