I have a 2000 hyundai elantra and while starting the car this morning I had trouble. It was cranking when I turned the key but wouldn't ignite, if you will. After a few more turns it finally started running. I heard this could be bad spark plugs but I'm not sure, would any of you know? Thanks.

Change your spark plugs first. That's the most probable reason why the car is acting up. If changing them does not solve the problem, then you can get a new starter. Don't first spend $130 on a starter and later discover that all you needed to do was to change the spark plugs. I wish you a wonderful day.
It sounds like your *Starter* is out. But before you replace it, take it to a mechanic to check the voltage of your alternator. However, I do believe the problem here is your starter. I you decide to change your starter go ahead and replace the spark plugs (easy job)
