when it rains and i turn left and the wheels spin a little bit from the water, i will go to put the brakes on and turn again and the left rear wheel will lock up. then when i back up right after i hear a clunk. it only does it when it rains and the wheels spin. is that something to do with the differential? any help would be appreciated.

Yes. It has a limited slip differential. You hear the springs and clutches grabbing and letting go
As above said the most probable reason, but here's another thing that happens to me...
Brakes often swell in the rain, sometimes causing lockups when you first start out in the driveway, in the morning. Throwing it in reverse sometimes unsticks it, making a clunking noise.
You don't need to, and shouldn't, brake the spinning wheel. rather, you should just let off the gas. The wheel will stop soon enough, giving you a much smoother (safer) movement than braking.
You need to change your differential fluid and use GM approved limited slip additive to keep this problem from happening. The limited slip clutches aren't disengaging properly due to worn out differential fluid. If you don't do this your limited slip will be destroyed.
