hi,
i'm 19 yrs old, female, 5 foot 3 and weigh 150 pounds. i want to lose around 30 pounds the healthy way. i'm planning on:
- eating upto 1,500 calories a day
- keeping a food diary and getting weighed every fortnight
- giving up fizzy drinks such as diet pepsi, as im addicted to it
- no takeaways, chocolate, pizza, food high in fat/salt/sugar
- no late night eating
- walking for an hour (or more) 4 days a week
- drink alot of water
i already eat healthily most of the time, i have 6 portions of fruit or veg a day and have alot of fish. however i have bad comfort eating issues and have binge eating disorder, so i struggle at times. i was wondering if i'd be able to lose weight on the plan above or if i will need to lower the calories more. i'd like to lose around 30 pounds in 6 months or less. i currently eat around 2000 calories a day, however on some days (binge days) upto 3500 and don't do much exercise due to working long hours. (sedentary job sat at a desk for 15 hours a day)
thanks!

If you ate 1500 calories a day, you would lose 32 pounds in two months, and about 4 per week. That's a reasonable goal, and good for you for wanting to lose weight healthily! Although, to avoid the chance of overeating, I would take about 2000 a day. Even then, you would lose 24 in two months, and about 3 per week, so that's still a good goal. (3500 calories = 1 pound)
Your plan seems good, and will guarantee that you eventually reach your goal. Whenever you feel like you want to binge, stop, and think: "I'm so close to my goal; I shouldn't give up now!" Replace diet soda with water. If want something with taste, try 100% juice drinks, flavored water, or milk. Rinse your mouth with water so sugar doesn't remain on your teeth.
As for late night eating, follow this rule: don't eat after 7:30, then brush and FLOSS your teeth at 8:45. If you go to sleep without brushing, the bacteria in your mouth may start to produce acid, eventually causing tooth decay. You're to wait at least one hour after eating before you brush because your enamel softens a little after eating, and you don't want to brush it off.
You already realize that there is no such thing as losing weight quickly, so don't give up. You can keep your eating habits in check, so it's just a matter of waiting it out.
Sounds like a great weight loss plan/diet! Once your body doesn't seem to be still loosing weight with the 1500 calories, then do 1400 calories for a while and then go back up to 1500 and then 1300 and then 1500 then 1400 or whatever to keep your body confused up keep your metabolism going. eating 5 SMALL (200-300 per each meal) meals a day also is a good idea, to keep up the metabolism! limit carbs, but stick to protein (speeds up metabolism), vegetables, fruits, and greens (spinach, kale, chard, etc...)
