I noticed a very tiny lump in my ear lobe about 4 years ago, I asked the doctor and they said it's nothing to worry about, it hasn't grown or anything but a few days ago for some reason I woke up and that same area is enflamed and the lump seemed to grow in size for whatever reason, could this be a boil or something? Should I try popping it?

It could be a boil, or it could be an infected hair too.
I would put a triple antibiotic and a gauze bandage on it when you are at home, and all night long. That may draw it to the surface. It has not come to a head, don't try to pop it.
Look at the link about boils for more information.
Most likely it's a sebaceous cyst. I had little bumps in my ear lobes when I was younger, as did a lot of other people I knew. I had one that grew to the size of a walnut and I kept trying to pop it and couldn't. The sac was hard. I had to have it removed by a surgeon on an outpatient basis. When I asked about the other little bumps he told me not to worry unless they became large and painful. I would try to dry it out with rubbing alcohol or acne cream, and if it didn't dry up, I would see a doctor.
it's a pimple. There is pus in it. I get these too. I don't know if opening it is a good idea though.
