It is said that out of all the 18 Puranaas, Srimad Bhagavatam is considered important and given a predominant place. May I know the reason from our well knowledged esteemed Y/A group members?
Likewise, the "Garuda Purana" , which was taught by Lord Maha Vishnu Himself to Garuda and said by Him that it would provide all the human beings whoever recites It, with Kaama, Moksha, Phala Purushaartha Sidhdhyartam.
But I came to understand that the Garuda Purana should not be recited by everybody on everyday basis and it should be recited in a house, where a death took place, that also during the 10 days of mourning by the karmaadhikaari only.
Is it true ? If so why ?
I expect appropriate answers from our well knowledged members of our Y/A group for these both questions.
Update:Mathangi Rani, when you become a "Bluff Master"?!!!!

1) Srimad Bhagavatam:
The Srimad Bhagavatam is widely recognized as the most well known and influential of the Puranas, and is sometimes referred to as the "Fifth Veda". It is unique in Indian religious literature for its emphasis on the practice of bhakti, compared to the more theoretical bhakti of the Bhagavad Gita; for its redefining of dharma; and for the extent of its description of God in a human form. It is also the source for many of the popular stories of Krishna's childhood told for centuries in the Indian subcontinent.
Srimad Bhagavatam, 12.13.15:
'sarva-vedānta-sāraḿ hi
śrī-bhāgavatam iṣyate
tad-rasāmṛta-tṛptasya
nānyatra syād ratiḥ kvacit'
The Sri Bhagavata is the very essence of all the Vedanta literature. One who has enjoyed the nectar of its rasa never has any desire for anything else.
2) Karuda Purana:
The second part of the Karuda Purana is not read in houses normally since the mantras are used in funeral rites. There is nothing wrong in reading the first part of Karuda Purana any time in houses.
Garuda Purana is in the form of instructions by Vishnu to his carrier, Garuda (The King of Birds - a vahana of Lord Vishnu). This Purana deals with astronomy, medicine, grammar, and gemstone structure and qualities. In addition, the Garuda Purana is considered the authoritative Vedic reference volume describing the Nine Pearls, which includes not only the well known Oyster Pearl, but also the Conch Pearl, Cobra Pearl, Boar Pearl, Elephant Pearl, Bamboo Pearl, Whale Pearl, Fish Pearl, and Cloud Pearl.
The Garuda Purana has nineteen thousand slokas (verses). The Garuda Purana has two parts, a Purva Khanda (first part) and an Uttara Khanda (subsequent part). Each Khanda has several chapters (adhyaya). The purva khanda is much longer, it has two hundred and thirty-four chapters. The Uttara khanda has only forty-five.
The latter half of this Purana deals with life after death. The Hindus of India generally read this (part)Purana while cremating the bodies of the dead.
The Garuda Purana is often recited at funeral (shraddha) ceremonies. The reason is that it has all the mantras that are to be chanted at such ceremonies. If the rites are performed according to these incantations, the ancestors are freed from all sins. On the occasion of the ceremony, pindas (oblations) are offered to the dead ancestors. And the rite has to be repeated exactly one year after the date of death.
Garuda Purana Book
Hi
I am attempting this question.
Actually there is no fatal things in our puranas and our ethical granthas. All they are equal only. There is no limitations for reading puranas (Includin GARUDA PURANAM) and traditional books in home or temple or outside.
In olden gurukulas students may taught about Ashtadasha Puranas (Including GARUDA PURANA).
By reading garuda purana we may aware about how many types of sins are there and for that how many types of chastisments are available.
By Reading and Understanding GARUDA PURANAM our behavior may change from Bad to Good.
For making this type of consciousness is the main motive of GARUDA PURANAM. That is why in olden days students are learned about GARUDA PURANAM.
i am not an authority on this but i will attempt to answer
the Garuda Puranam is one of the vishnu puranam. it is ( as you said) a form of dailog between Vishnu and Garuda ( the king of birds) . they are two sections. the 2nd section of the book deals with issues connected with death particularly funeral rites and the metaphysics of re-incarnation . portions of Garuda puranam are used by Hindus as funeral liturgy. Indeed some consider it unlucky to read this book except during funerals
as per my knowledge in bhagawatam written by POTANA m\any characters were described.we can't see those many members with different characters all at once & learn anything from them by observation.so it useful for us kn these days to differ good and bad
in garudapurana the punishments for our sins after death are described by which they taught that we may fear to do the things and conduct the karmas properly of the dedthed person properly without deviating our mind on those days.
as i am not educated on the puranas, i cannot help you.
sorry, brother.
