My husband is from the south and really wants a southern home cooked meal, but he doesn't want the typical fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, sadly lol! What else can I fix that would be a comfort food for him?? Thanks! More than one recipe is welcome aswell! :)

Roast beef with mashed potatoes and rich home made brown gravy. Buttery dinner rolls
Navy beans cooked with a pork hock with some chunks of ham in the beans. Hot corn bread.
Meatloaf and scalloped potatoes.
Where in the South? Virginians don't eat like the people in New Orleans. And people of different colors eat different food... Does your husband like chitt'lins?
I'd make OKRA--either because he loves it or for spite!! I love it. You can coat it and fry it, or stew it with tomatoes. Bake a ham and cover it with brown sugar or find some recipe with a soda mixture (like 7-UP or Coke or Root Beer and sugar/pancake syrup) and some pineapple slices . Make a pot of those big dried white lima beans, simmered for hours with some sort of pork product (a piece of ham, a hock, a slice or two of bacon). Now, that's REALLY southern. Shrimp and grits... Macaroni & cheese made with Velveeta--or Duke's mayonnaise. Buy some thin-sliced country ham and put it on buttered rolls (biscuits, but not really). Make biscuits! HAHAHAHA!! This is just fun. What a great question for Yahoo!... hmmmmm... Pecan pie. God, I'm getting so hungry. My parents are Southern but moved north when they got married. My relatives' food was always better than ours!
If you look up Paul Deans website she has lots of southern comfort food recipes in there..or even go to foodnetwork.com..=)
