I went to the gyno for the first time, and my pap smear came back abnormal. Now I am freaking out about all the different things that could be wrong!!
I am not by any means "slutty" and take care of and respect my body. Now I am worried though, and I will not find out for a few weeks what is wrong, but I am just going to assume HPV.
So my question is... do I feel ashamed about having it? Like is it the same as getting crabs, or gonorrhea or chlamydia?
And also, do I inform the guy that I was most recently sexually active with? I mean I have no clue who would have given it to me, so do I tell anyone I've ever had sex with or is it not necessary? Could they be at risk?

Almost all abnormal Pap smear results
are caused by the Human Papilloma Virus
(HPV).
Anyone who has ever had sex can have
HPV – it is so common that four out of five
people will have had HPV at some time in
their lives, so that means anyone....it does not mean you or any woman is a slag
In most cases, HPV clears up by itself in
one to two years.
In rare cases, if left undetected or
untreated and HPV persists, abnormal
changes in the cells of the cervix may
progress to cervical cancer. This usually
takes up to 10 years.
Around 1 in 10 Pap smears will show changes
in the cells of the cervix. These are rarely
cancer. In fact, less than 1% of abnormalities
are cancer.
Yes you must inform the registery if it is HPV, the staff at the registry inform the person/persons you have recently slept with to come in for a screen test to see if they have it too.
Theres so many types of hpv. And theres 3 types. Cerival cancer, warts and one that i was VERY LUCKY to have gotten it comes and it goes away on its own. So go and get tested for cancer or warts. And do tell the last person you had sex with. I wish you luck
stop worrying!!! my friend's came back abnormal, but then it turned out to be something minor (don't remember what it was, but it wasn't anything that she could have given to her partner). when it's time for you to worry about something awful, your doctor will tell you what it is.
I wouldn't mention it to your partner. not until AFTER you find out what it is!
