Be sure it will never destroy your career. I am not a typical accountant and I have felt uncomfortable through the years with some people. I have worked with the stuffy, lacking sense of humour (apart from financial cheap jokes obviously) and with no sense or co-ordination. They are still today very well paid accountants and most people accept it's part of the trade. I am quite shy but socially and I pull myself together when necessary. Ambition is a great driver by the way.
So it's not part of the trade. If you are good you'll get far. Just go on to a couple of soft skills courses like communication, presentation skills and if you are interested in management, in time to some management courses. It will do the world for you.
Just, please make sure you add value to the organisation by thinking what the numbers are showing and not just being a book-keeper involved in accruals and prepayments. The true accountant is the one who analyses data at a glance and is able to give direction to the management. If you achieve it, you're on your way. Balance Sheet analysis is a good place to start.
Good luck.
Get a job in a large company for the experience if nothing else. You will need experience in a plc to make you employable in a small practice.
There is no such thing as a social accountant. You'll be fine.
