Ummm..What is Acid Reflux? Its just like heartburn right? i need some info on it like wat it is, how its caused, the effects it has, how to prevent it, and how to cure it...
It's a disease in which the stomach acids come up and burn the lining of the esophagus.
It can cause way more than heartburn, common symptoms: nausea, vomiting, shortness of breath, indigestion.Actually, I don't know how it is caused, because when I was 12 it just randomly happened to me, I was diagnosed with gerd, pretty much the same concept.
It can cause esophageal cancer, ulcers along the line of that.
It is not curable, BUT there are things you can do to relieve symptoms.
Antacids, medicines etc.
Yeah sorry this is kind of bland, I'm telling you this off of the top of my head.
acid reflux is due to a weakness in the lower esophagus that allows stomach acid to enter into the esophagus which does not have the protection that your stomach has to protect it from the acid. I have suffered with this for years and have been on acid reducers for years. you can try prilosec otc. but acid reducers cause their own problems. I subscribe to many natural health news letters and the most recent one had a good artical on reflux that I am going to try. it says to take 600 mg (in capsule form) or 2 tbls of aloe vera( extract) 20 minutes before each meal for one week. if that dosent help add Nux Vomica ( from any health food store) 2 tablets of 30c twice daily until symptoms are gone. if after 3 weeks symptoms remain also take deglycyrrhizinated licorice root (DGL) chew two 400 mg tabs 20 minutes before each meal also. if the reflux wakes you up at night dont eat two hours before bed time and raise the head of your bed 6 inches. you may need to make changes to your diet also. "yahoo" ( i hate google) the term acid reflux diet
Usually, heartburnThe most common symptom of acid reflux disease (also known as gastroespohageal reflux disease, or GERD). Heartburn feels like a burning pain in the center of the chest. It is caused by acid from the stomach backing up into the esophagus. is a symptom of acid reflux disease (GERD) Also known as Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD). Describes the condition of backflow of stomach acid into the esophagus which frequently happens when the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) relaxes more often than it should and/or at inappropriate times. The symptoms of acid reflux disease typically occur on 2 or more days a week.. And if you suffer from persistent heartburn on two or more days a week—and you’ve treated it and changed your diet—it could be due to acid refluxBackflow of stomach acid into the esophagus. Acid reflux frequently happens when the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) relaxes more often than it should and/or at inappropriate times. This allows harsh stomach juices to back up into the esophagus. disease. But only your doctor can tell you if these are signs of acid reflux disease.
Almost everyone has heartburn sometimes. Heartburn is a painful burning feeling in your chest or throat. It happens when stomach acid backs up into your esophagus, the tube that carries food from your mouth to your stomach. If you have heartburn more than twice a week, you may have gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). With GERD, the muscles at the end of your esophagus do not close tightly enough. This allows contents of the stomach to back up, or reflux, into the esophagus and irritate it.
Before they diagnosed my acid reflux, I was going to a cardiologist because the symptoms were identical to angina - heavy chest and pain down the left arm. He had me do a stress test, then he did a arterogram. He told me my heart was fine. I learned later that it was acid reflux. I stopped drinking alcohol and improved my diet and it all went away.
You should ask your doctor that and then come back and tell us because now you have us curious. I dream when I over eat (I no longer have acid reflux) so it seems reasonable to think that way.
Pretty much... It's when stomach contents pass up through the oesophagus.
Usually caused by eating large meals, alcohol, caffeine, some medications, greasy foods, spicy foods... Symptoms include cramping, difficult or painful swallowing, pain behind or just below the breastbone, spitting up at night, sore throat, coughing, shortness of breath and bad breath etc.
I don't think you can really prevent it, but you can watch what you're eating. Taking antacids after foods that you are likely to have heartburn after can help avoid it or make it more comfortable... In some severe cases, your doctor can prescribe some tablets for you that will help to neutralise the acid in your stomach.
Have a look at some of these sites... Hope it helps!!
a little like heartburn, with acid reflux your stomach acid is eating through your esphogas. not sure of how to prevent it, but if you have it you should stay away from pizza, coffee, orange juice, and anything spicy. if it is bad enough you may need to be on medication for it.
Manuka Honey IS GREAT for reflux. Also, try sodium bicarbonate, AKA baking soda. Mix half teaspoon of baking soda with a cup of water, make sure its completely mixed until the water is clear. The taste SUCKS but I swear it WORKS!!! If you think I'm crazy, don't worry it even says it on the baking soda box - for indigestion... You can try drinking this about 2-3 times a day...
