I never thought of it that way but it sounds like it could be that way. After all some surrogates use their own eggs so would there be much of a difference other than the sperm? But then again there is a difference between doing something nice for someone and knowing you arent going to keep the baby before you even become pregnant and having to give up a baby that you could keep.
No, generally a surrogate mother is not seen as a parent or as having an emotional connection with the child. I see my daughter's birth mother and father as her other parents. While they may not have legal or moral responsibility for her I feel that they have an physical and emotional bond with my daughter that can never be broken.
Unfortunately we don't know who my daughter's birth family is but I will always support her seeking them out if she chooses. If I can love more than one child I don't see why my daughter can't love more than one set of parents.
