I think you are right to be careful. You should probably stay away from him or keep things on a friendly basis for now. Get to know him better. Maybe meet his parents and see how things go. The age difference between a 16 year old boy (think child) and an 18 year old girl (think woman) is actually much more than 2 years because girls mature faster.
