Explain how to find the distance from the focus to the directrix of the parabola x=2y^2.
Note ^2 means squared.
x = 2y^2
=> y^2 = (1/2) x
Comparing with y^2 = 4ax,
a = (1/8)
Focus is (a, 0) = (1/8, 0) and
directrix is x = - 1/8
=> distance between the focus and directrix
= 1/8 - (-1/8)
= 1/4.
