I took a college class about 12 years ago in Pre-Algebra. I am going back to college again and need to decide if I should retake the class again or go straight into Elementary Algebra. I really don[t remember alot from the pre-algebra class back then. Classes start tomorrow and I do not have the time to take a math assessment test. Also, if someone could explain the differences of the two I would appreciate it. Thanks

I would recommend that you probably should start with the pre-algebra if you have not seen math in many years and must decide by tomorrow. It will likely go over adding/subtrating/dividing fractions, percentages, some word problems etc. and very basic algebra it will also help build your confidence for elementary algebra. Elementary Algebra can be very basic as well, I would have to see the school's course description (it should be available on their website) you may want to talk to the professor and tell him where you are at and what to expect in the course. If it is the type of class that offers some reinforcement and goes back over the basics you may be fine going straight into Elementary Algebra.
I was in a similar situation but was able to read a good self-study Algebra book before I took my first Algebra class in many years it was called "Practical Algebra a self-teaching guide" by Steven Slavin it helped me a lot. Good luck!
Most colleges today don't have "pre-algebra," and instead offer a "remedial" course in algebra followed by some sort of Basic Algebra or Algebra 1.
Really it comes down to what kind of math student you were in highschool, if you took any algebra, and how hard you plan on working going back to college now. As a 30yo freshman, I aced it.
