If we build a colony on mars and there are advanced civilizations nearby, do you think they might start to take a bit a of interest?
Update:I was thinking because we do not live off our home planet, they might think where to primitive to bother with.

That's like expecting people in China to notice you because you've moved one millimeter closer to their country.
Imagine this already:
Mars is our neighbor, and we, humans, never set foot on it yet and never will be able to for possibly 20+ years. Warp drive is currently being developed by NASA so we can go to places in space quicker and faster than light, but who knows when they will even finish developing that?
I believe advanced civilizations exist, although proof of such civilizations is probably beyond the human mind and technology.
We can't even pull ourselves together, so what makes us think that we are able to go to different planets? There are constantly wars being fought for obscure reasons on this planet and we can't even stop them. If we can't, who will?
Will they take interest in us?
Possibly, there are multiple arguments whether they will either destroy mankind, help us, or ignore us.
We have been sending out radio waves for decades. These waves travel at the speed of light, we have never had any reply or any alien broadcasts come back to us. There are stations all around the world which search for these. If there is an advanced civilisation anywhere nearby they would have sent out some form of radiation (radio waves) that we would have detected, whether they were interested in us or not. Going to mars would not make us any closer to any intelligent life.
Basically if there was advanced intelligent life within reach we would already know about it.
Any intelligent civilisation would already be taking an interest because our atmosphere is changing in composition due to global industrial activity. This would be detectable by spectroscopic analysis from many light years, just as we have been using it to analyse the composition of extrasolar planets. Also, our sphere of radio emissions is only about 100 light years in radius, and messages may not make any sense to other intelligences, or they may have not reached that level of technology, or have but don't use radio frequencies, prefering high-power, HF laser pulses instead. Aliens may not want to establish contact or give themselves away, if they see us as a danger. Scientists such as Stephen Hawking, Michio Kaku and Jared Diamond have all cited the example of technologically superior cultures always subjugating the lesser culture, and advised caution, or gone further and suggested cessation of intentional radio messages.
They would think we were being stupid and immoral. Mars will always have a low gravity, adults may be able to compensate with exercise and medications but children would develop with deformities.
It would be easier to build O'Neill Cylinders, Bernal Sphere's and Stanford Torus's where artificial 1-g gravity from centrifugal force would be possible. Zero-g makes the construction of large structures easy because nothing needs support till the structure has been built. Resources from asteroids, comets and moons are available. Solar power are available and there are no planetary gravity well or atmospheric re-entry to contend with.
A colony on Mars would be shooting our children in the foot when there are better ways to colonize space.
I am a student of the human mind. My response is absolutely, not meant to sound as cold satire. However, to a creature capable of higher intelligence (interstellar travel) we could appear much much closer
To the dangerous wildlife, than equal to the e.t. For instance, if man was, openly, visited: our response would be one of fear, then one of murderous action: slicing the e.t into pieces for ghoulish study. Our reaction would be, the reaction of the most dangerous animal(atom splitting) on the Earth.
within 100 years from now we will have the power to turn gold into water or anything into anything by manipulating the atomic structure of atoms. We will be transhuman and be able to morph into basically anything we want too by using atomic manipulation
YOU see the future though the eyes of sci fi.
No, in astronomical terms Mars is just next door already.
