I know that it has something to do with hair loss, but if you can provide the statistics in men and women and age ranges and such, I'd appreciate. And also causes, and cures if any.
Alopecia IS the medical description of the loss of hair from the head or body.
There are several types of Alopecia, some of them can be cure and some of them can not.
Basically you can divide Alopecia into 2 big sub-types: Non-Scarring Alopecia, and Scarring Alopecia.
Non-Scarring Alopecia is the most common type and can be improved or be cured by treatments.
Scarring Alopecia usually provoke an irreversible damage, malformation or complete rupture of the follicular structure. There is no treatment or drug that helps when the hair follicles is dead.
Statistically, 90% of men older than 21 yours present some type of recession on the front of the head. 50% of men older than 40 have the top of the head affected.
Women have better statistics... Female Alopecia affects a small percentage of women between 20 and 30 years and 30% of those between 40 and 60.
There are a lot of treatments that do work against Alopecia. The key is to find what it's causing the hair loss and which type of Alopecia do you have.
Some of the treatments that works against Androgenic Alopecia are Minoxidil, Finasteride, Dutasteride (but it's not yet approved), Hair transplant (Surgery)...
