I already have a dental crown placed in, but I really hate it, and I was wondering if theres an alternative? I still had most of my tooth before i had it put in, so I was wondering if I could have some sort of cosmetic restoration to get the shell of my molar back? I don't know why I was stupid enough to just let my dentist go ahead with it.
Thanks in advance for any help given.
Update:It doesn't really hurt as I've had a root canal. It is a little uncomfortable sometimes but not sure what's causing it. I just want the freedom of my tooth back. And not having it covered competely coz if anything happens to it or if I get a cavity I wont know till it's too late. Freaks me out.

Doubtful. If there was an alternative to a crown, your dentist would have mentioned it.
You do get used to them. I have several thanks to ulcers. If it's hitting wrong, go back and tell him so he can grind some more off the crown so it will fit and hit better.
A full coverage crown is the best option to restore a root canal tooth because it provides maximum protection against possible fracture. The bite of a properly placed crown should feel natural right away; you do not need to "get used to it." It sounds like the bite may be a little high and this is common when it comes back from the dental lab but this can be easily adjusted by the dentist.
A root canal tooth will turn brittle as it ages and increases the chances of fracture so you were not stupid; you made the right decision. As long as you treat the crown as if it were a natural tooth, you should have no problems with cavities. A cavity will only develop at the gumline or just below if that area is not kept clean.
A crown was put there because your tooth was damaged, now there is not much of your tooth left at all. The tooth is ground down to a point so that the crown can be placed on it. If you took it off you would have a very wierd looking tooth. A crown is a "cosmetic restoration."
Why do you hate the crown? Does it hurt? Is the color not right? Does it hurt when you bite?
If it hurts and it was recent - give it a couple of weeks and it should be ok, it is probably just swollen.
If the color is wron have the dentist order a new crown.
If it hurts when you bite go in and tell the dentist, he will grind part of the crown or the tooth on the other side of it so that it fits better when you bite.
