Today I found out my grandpa was white and my grandma was half black/half native on my dad's side. This surprised me because my dad is racist against white people and so is his family.(plus I don't have any sort of white features). On my mom's family is mostly black however.
So what would I be considered? Can I claim the white or native american ancestry?
btw I asked a similar question yesterday before I found out. Sorry about that
Update:Nice to see you're still here

So you're father is only a 1/4 Black... so is it safe to assume that he looks primarily non-Black??? How can he be racist against something that he so closely resembles? And didn't you ever wonder about his race/ethnicity before?
You are just 60-something percent Black, so that leaves a lot of room to claim another racial ancestry.
Well, race is an artificial concept used to categorize people on a spectrum, just like 'red' 'yellow' and 'green' are used to classify points on the color continuum. So I wouldn't worry too much about if you are 'mixed race' or not. I would say 'mixed heritage'. But if your trying to figure out what to put on a survey, mixed race is the same thing as multiracial.
Black.
i claim native american and my gma was half. because of society i never considered that the fact that my great grandfather was half white i have some white heritage. but to me it's different to define your heritage and your race. im black i dont consider myself biracial because it was so far a way biologically but if someone asked about ALL of my heritage i would not be ashamed to mention it. if you want to consider yourself multiracial you could. i would consider u black but multicultural like i do myself. (sometimes :) )
So that would make you 25% white, 12.5% native american and the rest black.
I'd say mixed, since you have no white or indian features.
LOL, I'm biracial and my uncle and great grandfathers and cousins are white and indian due to family background on my moms side and she's black and my dad is italian-irish
and downtown on my papers, and my brothers were both considered BLACK (:
You have a mixed background..
You should be proud of all your ethnic backgrounds. Your dominate ancestry is black/African though.
You can claim it if you want to
you are exactly what you stated. You "claim" the mix of things that you are.
glad to have you back, but I prefer your avatar from last year...the one with the glasses.
