Am I considered "Biracial"?
My father is white and black, but my mom is black. People often ask me what I am mixed with. This might be because i live in phoneix, and there are many biracial people here. But i tell people that i am black. In the past ive offended people by saying im biracial, and i was inform of the "one drop rule". Ever since ive just told people im black. What's your thoughts on this?

The "one drop rule" is from back when black people were called "negroes" and had different rights based on whether or not they had African ancestry. The idea is, that if you have ANY "black blood", you are black- and it was the basis of discrimination against biracial people, and at one point it was a reason to keep people who may have looked white, and been from mostly white people, kept in slavery, because they had that "one drop". I don't who is saying this to you, but it hasn't been true for centuries. Either they don't know the history/have re-appropriated it to mean something else to them, or they are just racist.
Even if it wasn't an incredibly offensive thing to say, it's still BS, because you get to say what you identify as. Only you can know that, they have no business telling you that they're "offended" by what you think of yourself.
You come from two different races, the ratio of which is none of their business, and nobody has the right to tell you what you are. You are what you say you are, not what other people tell you you are. Tell em to go scratch.
If there´s more than one race running down your veins you are automatically biracial or multiracial. The one drop rule is an extremely racist and obsolete rule. Anyone who finds biracial an offensive term is ignorant.
My thoughts are...that black people need to stop obsessing over what they are mixed with. You are ONLY 25% white. Just slightly more "mixed" than the average black American.
