I'm wanting to travel to the amazon next year and so i'm just getting all my stuff figured out. What city close to there will I be able to stay in and then bus/backpack/boat/fly out of to go explore? I've been to Peru before so I know the landscape, etc. but I'm wanting to go to the Brazilian amazon now. What do you have for me? thanks.

In first place when you think in Brazilian Amazon doesn't think about bus, think about boat, in Amazon highways hardly exist 90% of the transport of people and of load it is done in boats, the rivers are the highways of Amazon. We have a state called Amazon however the Amazonian area understands several states, the larger two are Amazonas and Pará. If you will visit that area you can begin for Manaus, capital of Amazon or Belém capital of Pará.
Well it's a pretty hard place to find buses and transportation, people there don't really know english, so u'd better know portuguese in order to move around more comfortably. It will be nice, but no easy!
Good luck!
Ah
Oi, eu sou brasileira
Lá a mata é bem fechada mesmo
Se você gosta de aventura é um bom lugar
De cidade eu te recomendaria " Manaus/AM "
