choose 2x so you can find half easily
2x + 45 - x = 87
x + 45 = 87
x = 87-45 = 42
so 2x = 84 making the other angle = 6
x + y = 90
x + y/2 = 87
y is obviously 6 at a glance
so x is 84
comp means sum of 90
x + y = 90
x + .5y = 87
use elimination
-x - y = -90
x + .5y = 87
-.5y = -3
y = 6 degrees this is small angle
so x = 84 degrees
