Last Friday I had major sinus surgery. Deviated septum, polyps removed, and sinus cleared out. It took about four hours. Everything went smoothly other then it took longer then expected. My problem is when I woke up I was very nauseous, and vomited blood several times and a week post op I still have no appetite. I have been under before for scopes, gallbladder surgery, wisdom teeth and never had and nausea or vomiting. So why would I have problems after my sinus surgery? I'm a very active 17 year old female. I compete with horses and also a vegan. Any tips on how to get my appetite back?

It more than likely isn't the anesthesia since your problem began a week ago. The nausea is more than likely caused by hyrudians in your sinus cavity that are used to avoid you lungs from filling up with the blood left over by the surgery. Or even the blood alone in the lung cavity will cause this prompt reaction. As long as you are healing make sure you have an IV in. This will assure you nutrient levels are right.
You have a food disorder and you might want to talk about it to the hospital psychiatrist so they can begin treating you for it. I know you don't think you have an eating disorder, but if there isn't a physiological reason why you refuse to eat meat, then you have a food disorder and it is affecting your ability to supply nutrients to your body when it is very critical, like following surgery. Don't take this statement lightly. Talk to the doctors about this while you have a team of support surrounding you. Food disorders tend to cause catostrophic injury to the thyroid and other vital organs. So get it together while you still can.
You want to think you are so healthy because you are vegan? Well, reality states you are such an ill person. Most people with this sort of food disorder will continue to reject foods until they are left with only eggs, milk and bread. Yet, they will drink alcohol, do drugs and spread vasoline over their bodies to cause the vomiting. Bolimia is treatable once you face the fact that you aren't fooling anyone with your stunts. You are just harming yourself.
It sounds like you probably were given a different kind of anesthesia than you've gotten before. Different ones are more nausea-inducing than others. If you are still feeling nauseous you could try an over the counter anti-nausea medication.
The appetite thing could be related to the anesthesia effects, plus sinus surgery could have affected your sense of smell, which would decrease your appetite. I'd say just keep eating on a schedule, or have smaller meals through the day, and you'll get back to normal before too long.
Two reasons: 4 hours under anesthesia and blood in your stomach. Sinus surgery often has bleeding that goes down your throat and into your stomach while you are anesthetized.
If you are on pain medication, that can also take away your appetite and make you feel nauseated.
Young and female are two of the risk factors for post-op nausea and vomiting, along with not smoking and history of motion sickness.
Decreasing any opioid medications should help.
I'm sorry to say, but these side effects can be normal for major surgery under full anesthesia. When you have endoscopes done or window teeth removed, they don't put you under full anesthesia because they don't need to. They do something called twilight sedation. It feels the same to you, but it is quite different and has a much faster recovery. I would say, just force yourself to eat on a regular schedule, be patient, and you should do fine. It can take weeks to feel somewhat normal again after major surgery.
