CAKE:
Place the shortening, brown sugar, white sugar, applesauce and soda water in a mixer and mix until well blended.
Then add the flour, cinnamon and allspice.
Mix well to combine.
Pour into a 9x13 baking pan that has been sprayed with non stick cooking spray.
Bake in a preheated 350° F. oven for 20-23 minutes or until the cake starts to pull away from the pan and a toothpick inserted into the middle comes out clean.
Remove from oven and allow to cool completely on a wire rack.
FROSTING:
Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
Add the brown sugar and milk and boil over low heat for two minutes. Stir continuously.
Remove from the heat and allow the mixture to cool to luke warm.
Then mix in the powdered sugar until it is thick enough to spread.
When the cake is cool, spread frosting over the entire cake and allow it to cool completely and set.
