So I'm looking to replace my sh**ty HP laptop, was considering a Dell Zino desktop, but for a few hundred bucks cheaper I can get a nice PS3 that almost has all the same capabilities...plus with an external hard drive, it rivals the best desktops.
My primary uses would just be media, movies, games, and internet capabilities. I know they sell mice and keyboards for the PS3 so I don't have to use the controller to navigate webpages...not to mention how immune the PS3 is to viruses and infections as compared to your average computer designed to gradually slow in performance forcing you to throw money away on ridiculous antivirus software.
What's a better value?
Update:Pretty sure BluRay aka HD gaming IS the ultimate graphics. And I'm looking at the $200-$350 range, not $650. And I've just NEVER had a computer that didn't bog down by using the internet, virus protection or not, so I'm leaning toward a PS3.

It doesn't really rival with the best desktops. The PS3's largest official HDD is 320GB, where as PC, you can put almost how many space you want.
I agree with Ryan, for the same money, (or a bit more), you can build a beast gaming PC. That can play on 1920x1200 on max settings smoothly (That's better because PS3 and Xbox just upscales games to 1080.) Whereas PC, has the best graphics against consoles.
You can also put a Blu-Ray drive in your computer too.
As for spending on anti virus, you don't really need it if you're absolutely sure that the websites you are visiting and the files you downloaded does not contain any viruses.
"gradually slow in performance" Not really. If you add some more money, you can build a pc that will never gradually slow in performance. Seriously. It will be worth your money if you build a very good PC. It can do everything, even what the PS3 can do (Blu-Ray, HD Gaming, etc.)
PC is much more superior compared to consoles, as you do not have to buy a new console every couple of years, games are much cheaper, and it's basically an all-in-one machine for you.
Of course, if you already made your decision to get a PS3, that is fine too, but PC is the way to go.
Yes, computers are more vulnerable to viruses and such, but there are very nice, cheap (sometimes even free) software that keeps your computer running smoothly without viruses. One nice program to think about using is RegistryBooster 2. It cleans out your whole system of all harmful entries.
Back to the main question. PS3's are practically a computer except no fancy business, architecture, and other programs like that to use. But if your primary uses are just media, movies, games, and internet capabilities. Then either or would work. But if you want the same video games that you can play on PS3 with way better graphics (if you get a nice graphics card) then just buy a PC.
The PC I have is this CyberPower:

It is a very nice computer and I love it. It's not the cheapest computer but it's not too far from the price of the best PS3. But Bad Company 2 and Modern Warfare 2 look pretty nice on it ;)
In the end, it doesn't really matter, it's more on personal taste. A little price difference is all. But the PS3 (in my opinion anyways) is more portable then a desktop. I would choose a PC over PS3 just because I've been playing Xbox 360 since it was released :)
advise the amd phenomll x4 965 or 970 properly value for overall performance, 6 cores in case you right into a good sort of three-D rendering, amd hd 6850 or a gtx 550ti, amd are good processors in basic terms a tab slower in overall performance than the intel processors, they do no longer overheat , ran a old amd athlon with a inventory cpu fan and rear fan for twenty-four hours , no overheating i be attentive to of , so for funds laptop's advise a amd processors, amd phenom llx4
For $650, you can build a killer gaming machine. Though if you don't want to build a gaming machine, a PS3 is your best bet.
