Largemouth bass:
What is the charicteristic that gets the largemouth bass it's name?
Smallmouth bass:
What name are these fish commonly mistaken for, or wrongly given due to a similar charicteristic with another seperate sub-species of black bass?
Spotted bass:
Seems like a cross of smallmouth and largemouth in nearly every way it has attributes of one or the other... Exept... There is one phisical charicteristic that you can allways use to know they're not the fish you thought they were! Which charicteristic (1 or more) sets them apart?, I have one specific one in mind...
Ranty detailed & well explained answers appriciated!
Update:GMB and Chimp
If you read this I just figured out what you guys mean... Pendejo (I had to sound it out several times) like stupid or clueless...
And Gmb.. yours was easier to read... Ouch, you sound like larry in veggie tales. "Que pobre el tomate, no puede cantad) Sorry if thats not spelled right.
I never learned to read spanish, just understand it. I can speak it but cannot carry a conversation well when I want to say my own part of the converation
Update 3:"In english accent" My dear freinds... you are quick to judge... When did I EVER say anything about rock bass? GMB and you (enuf) would be correct about part 2 (smallmouth trivia). Rock bass is just a poor choice. No one confuses them with it. BUT alot of small'ehs have red eyes, does that clear it up? If my question wasen't void... It probably is now cause I gave out an answer.
Part 1 is obvious (largmouth trivia)
Part 2 is slightly harder about a med level (
Part 3... Well, keep working at it guys.
Update 5:GMB you allready edited... Why not give it another go. Your answer is as close as it gets. But that last part... Maybe you can find one last attribute?

B.K...
due to the fact that the maxilla extends beyond that of the smallmouth. the identifying point being the center of the eye.
2) l have no idea WHO would confuse a smallmouth with ANY other fish, let alone another bass. unless one's visual acuity was in the range of 20/200.
to me... if any of the basses were to be confused, l would give my vote also to the redeye, due to the similarity in eye color, the lack of identifying spots and its chunky shape, though the green color is a dead give-away it is not.
and it looks as if GMB got you there.
NOT a rock bass. it is not a separate sub-species of bass of which there are only EIGHT sub-species.
If you can't carry a conversation well when you want to say your own part, you can't speak it. There's a difference between UNDERSTANDING and SPEAKING.
Anyway, the largemouth bass gets its name because of the obvious large mouth.
I've never heard anything of the sort regarding smallmouth bass. But I'm guessing an idiot would confuse a smallmouth with a red-eye bass because they both have red eyes.
As far as the spots go, one of the ways to tell them apart is by the size of the mouth. A spotted bass will resemble a largemouth bass so close in color, but it will have a smaller mouth. And instead of the dark blotches, a spotted bass has rows of dark spots below the lateral line.
EDIT:
Hey, you said BLACK BASS. A rock bass is NOT a species of black bass. Rock bass is Ambloplites rupestris; redeye bass Micropterus coosae.
This question is void!
The absence of the dark lateral line running the length of the body is the spotted bass' main feature as well as the "spots",smallmouth bass are called rock bass because they favor the rocky structure, largemouth bass which are members of the sunfish family have the eye and jawline extension, being much bigger than the others, where the jaw extends beyond the vertical end of the jaw/eye line,a smallie or spotted bass does not.The largemouth is just that, a very large mouth, that is used as a vacuum to seize prey. They size difference for the largemouth is greater than the others too, being 22 lbs. or more and the others rarely reaching half that.
Largemouth have jaws that extend past the eye, a Smallmouths' jaw stops before the eye. Spotted Bass have a jaw like a smally and spots by the fin like a smallmouth but have a dark stripe like a largemouth.
Largemouth: It's particularly large mouth which actually extends beyond the eye.
Smallmouth: Rock Bass?
Spotted Bass: Smaller mouth than LM, different color than SM.
1. It's largemouth
2.rock bass?
3. There spots idk there not in my state
