There are many shades of yellow that would look good with blue. You're right, stay away from orange.
As for the bedspread, you can go multicolored blues and yellows or go with just yellow or just blue. However if you want a little mix and match I would go with blue, yellow bedspread. Don't have to worry if there are small amounts of other colors, because blue and yellow will be the main colors.
Sheet can be plain yello or plain blue, because both would go well with bedspread. Get a set of each so you an change them around when you want.
Curtains can be while or off white what ever you prefer. White or off white will add a little demension and won't over due with blues and yellows. If you choose a white/off white you can always put a long narrow solft see through yellow or blue piece of material along the top of the curtain and just let it swag for added color if you choose to go in that direction.
A brass lamp would be a good accent piece. Brass goes pretty well with everything. Small or large is up to you as I don't know how small or large your room it. Lots of lamps to choose from so look around to see what you think will be the best for your room.
Look around for eccessories that you think that will fill the gaps. Could be scarfs, pictures, mirros you name it. You might even want to hang some of your jewlery on the wall. What ever catches you eye. You could always fill a portion of one of your walls with small mirros of all color and sizes. You can pick things like this up at Goodwill, rummage sales, second hand stores. You don't have to spend a whole lot of money for eccessories if you do a little hunting arount. You'll be surprised what you can find at second hand stores, etc. Most of my purchases are done at second hand stores, Goodwill, rummages sales. Then that's who I am. I enjoy the hunt and you never know what you can come up with for a lot less money.
Remember this is your room and what ever you put together is for you. You're not out to please other people, you're out to please your self. With that in mind, have fun redecorating with your favorite things.

What you're really asking is what colors look good with light blue, other than orange, right?
So:
teal
sage/mint green
chocolate brown
tan
white
lavender/light purple
Light blue and chocolate brown is a modern color combo which is popular lately.
Go with light blue and white and/or sage green if you are going with country style.
Light blue and pink is good for a baby's room.
If you want to do an ocean theme or you just like blue, you can do light blue and teal.
Light blue and tan is always a nice combo, and a good way to do light blue and chocolate brown if you don't like modern style. You could also add white if you like with this combo.
Light blue and light purple is a good combo for a teen's room.
Our bedroom does the chocolate brown and blue combo.
Does that help?
It doesn't have to be orange orange. There are shades and tints such as peach, rust, etc. You could go with the colors that are beside blue on the color wheel - greens and violets. There again, there are many shades and tints of these colors. It doesn't have to be the color wheel primary and secondary colors. If you went with the greens and violets, you would have the cool colors.
Green goes very well with blues in my opinion. Also, reds. If you have a light blue, I'd personally go for a light green or dark green. For reds, I'd just pick a normal red. I hope this helps somehow!
Each color only has one complementary color, so orange is it. however, brown contrasts with it as well.
