I have never used either, but my friend used the Playtex and she said it was the most comfortable that she had used and it lasted for about 6 months of daily use. I would say playtex- plus isn't it only like $100? Why not save money lol
I can only speak for the Playtex Embrace (dont get confused with the petite) and it has 5 levels of suction and 5 levels of speed. Can be pretty strong and I love it. I do have to say that after a year the motor or suction becomes a bit weaker in its strength. But its a good solid pump and the suction cups are the closest to what a baby does than any other brand including medela. What medela has is the hospital grade and that is the best option but its really expensive.
Well I use a hospital grade pump the Medela Lactina but I've heard great things about the Pump In Style. The Pump in Style isn't good for building your milk supply it's only good if you already have it established. As far as the playtex one, I was reading some reviews on Babies R Us and well there was a lot of bad reviews on it. Some people said that it was ok and some people said that it doesn't have strong suction and for it to have somewhat of a suction you should only pump one side at a time which if you ask me it defeats the entire purpose of having a double pump.
I used the Medela Pump in Style Original and definitely recommend it. I pumped many times a day. I could get about 6 ounces (both breasts together) in about 15 minutes double pumping.
I haven't used the Avent electric, but I've used the manual. I own the avent manual and the medela pump in style. I like the medela. I used to pump with the medela, and have my milk collect into the Avent bottles. (the neck of the bottle doesn't fit onto the pump tho) I've heard more things about medela,so that's who I'd have to go with. I've been very pleased with my pump so far (I've used it for over a year now, exclusively pumping) and it's held up great!
Medela if you'll be doing some serious pumping. Like if you're going back to work Medela is much better.
If you're only doing "recreational pumping," like for date nights, occasional daddy midnight feedings, or you want to keep your monthly girlfriends' lunch date, then even a manual would be fine.
Which is the better pump - Medela by far. Is the Playtes bad, probably not, but most likely not as efficient if you really need it.
***edit: not to throw more into it than necessary... but the Ameda Purely Yours is comparable to the Medela, often cheaper!
Medela hands down!! They are the ones that hospitals use as well...hospital grade, but Medela still. I've used the PIStyle (borrowed) and I loved it! My sister has the Playtex Embrace and she is saving her money to buy the PIStyle.
Try some local breastfeeding shops and see if they offer rentals of different machines. Try them and see which one works best for YOU.
I used the Medela b/c i boworred it (of course all the hoses and stuff were new) But hey if they are both electric double pumps I would say go w/ which ever favored your wallett!
Don't want to make it harder but I have the Avent IQ Duo and have wonderful luck so far. It's been 5mos. The negative is that I have to pump then dump if I want to use a bottle with a smaller opening.

Medela is the best but more expensive.
