California driving license question?
hello, if you are 17 1/2 years old, is it true that you dont need to take the online test and the drivers education and the only thing you got to do is go take the written test to get the permit?

However, I'll specifically answer your question.
Once you're 17.5 years of age, but younger than 18, you can take the written test and not need to go through a driving school.
If you pass the test, you get your permit. With this permit you're legally allowed to drive BUT you have to have an adult, age 25 or older with a valid driver's license. And of course, you must have the permit with you when you're driving.
Once you turn 18, you can take the actual driving test. If you pass it, you get your interim driver's license (basically a temporary paper version of the license) and you're free to drive without another adult.You should get the driver's licences within a few weeks after passing the driving test.
