My teacher gave us an example:"A man steals a car and then wrecks it. It's criminal because the car is worth more than 10,000 and there fore feleony theft. But civil because he wrecked it."
Are there any real life examples of a criminal case going civil or civil cases going criminal? Ive tried reseaching about United States vs Kordel, but it hasn't helped much. I have to write a story for my assignment about a criminal case going civil, AND detail all the steps to the trial.

OJ Simpson. He was criminally charged with murder but found not guilty. He was civilly charged with connection to the murder and found guilty and had to pay restitution to the family of his wife of millions of dollars

No a criminal case cannot "turn into" a civil one. It will ALWAYS be the criminal case. In a criminal case the plaintiff is typically the stare (but could be other jurisdictions). It is never the injured or aggrieved party, they are a witness in that case. The penalty in a criminal case can include fines and restitution but jail time is usually on the table.
In a civil case the injured party (financialky and/or physically) is the plaintiff and they typically hire a private atty to help. The penalties are only financial, for the plaintiff to recoup what they have lost plus possibly punitive damages for suffering, etc.
As I recall the OJ Simpson case went from criminal to civil. When OJ was found not guilty for criminal charges Nicole Simpson's estate and Ron Goldman's parents sued OJ Simpson for wrongful death and won. There is probably plenty of information on the Internet about both cases if you Google it.
