Dialogue does not seem to quite fit to me and I would advise against it (pending what you come back to us with.) I checked my Webster's New World Student Writing Handbook and it does not mention it one way or another, nor have any dialogue in the examples.
Consider this to be safe:
Flashbacks to conversations and isolated phrases/responses seem okay - imagine writing a memoir, for example, and you want to describe the family room you grew up in. Aside from the physical details of the grandfather clock, the perpetually dusty books on the shelves, etc. you might want to include bits of phrases that make the items more meaningful to you now:
"Ah, yes...that cat statue. Even now I could remember the words 'watch out for Kitty!' from my mother. Woe to anyone--son, husband, or dog included--who merely brushed up against it. For those us unfortunate to send the top-heavy statue teetering, the room would suddenly go cold and grey with the words 'go to your room.' How I miss seeing my mother next to that statue today, giving it a token pet on the head...remembering in it a story of love that was hers alone. "
