I've been heavily involved in computing since mainframes were carried on flat bed trucks. for my own personal use all I have ever used are laptops and I see no reason to change. you have to pay more to get equivalent power but the versatility is well worth the extra money.

Yeah, they're just portable in size, but the recent technology makes them pretty damn good.
Little problem - they overheat faster than PCs, but there are cooling blocks to solve this problem.
Depends on your definition of "better"
Laptop has better efficiency, better power consumption, and can have an equal strength CPU to most any desktop.
A desktop has better customizations, better upgrade ability, and far better pricing for the same CPU power. They are significantly cheaper to repair.
It all comes down to money, really.
