I know ps2 emulation is possible but on my machines I've had no success. SNES, N64 & PS1 emulation were possible on my most modern laptop Acer Aspire 5736Z. But for PS2 emulation was no avail. I'm interested in this but wondering what kind of machine I'd need If my specs weren't good enough. I think I'll give it another try later, but messing with plugins is such an time consuming job & I doubt it'd work with on board graphics, do you think I'll need a better machine

yes it totally does. but the graphic may seem not good enough. the emulator is called PCSX2. you need to get nice graphic card and processor. If your laptop does not give much of good work, you can choose either playing with high performance, low/medium graphic or high graphic, low/medium performance. The basic is you need to clean your laptop and defraggle your laptop. CCleaner and Defraggler would do. Plus Game Booster 3 also help you by closing some processes which you would not need. Last one, try set your power option to High Performance. :) It will totally help your gaming more smoothly. Dont hesitate trying ^^ If you need some help about PCSX2, email me. I'll help you as soon as i can.
