I was in a situation last week were me and my friends were sitting at a table and the principal was walking behind us and one of my friends said "Hey man put your phone away!" he said that just as a joke to get me scared and the principal reacted to it and came over and asked what i was doing with my phone and i responded "I was just holding my phone" which i was! My phone didn't even have the screen on. She said if she could take a look at my phone and i told her she couldn't because i had rights not to show her without any reasonable suspicion. Then she told me she could? so i told her i would give my phone to her but i wasn't going to let her search my phone. My friend then explained to the principal what he was doing as a joke. Then i guess she kinda got mad so she took my phone and i had to go with her to her office and i told her i wasn't going to answer any question until my mom was here not because i had anything to hide only because i wanted my mother to do something about this, which i felt was wrong because she took me in her office and i missed my last class! she was trying to scare me by saying the officer was going to come and search me and take me to a juvenile detention. which i haven't done anything wrong? and can i refuse any searches in school? i thought it was wrong and i wondered what could i do about it?

The answer to this is hard. They may go through your phone if enough evidence against you is there. I had a similiar situation in middle school. Someone said i was taking pictures of other on the bus. What i was actualy doing is taking a pic of a friend for his contact with his consent. I was called to the office and forced to give up my phone. I was younger then and did not rlly know my rights. Knowing this he threatened punishment if i did not unlock my phone. This js a clear violation of my right. Also the fact the phone is my dads property and thus my dad being an adult must give consent for a search unless a warrant it given. My dad said this all charges were dropped. So no they within the law depending on your state or city cannot search a phone with out evidence of a crime.
First off, I wouldn't even worry about juvenile detention because they're not going to do anything just for a phone. Second, I'm not 100% positive, although if you did not do anything wrong then they cannot search through your phone.
They have no right to be looking up ur phone next time try not joking around cause they might think u have something sipious
yes, you absolutely have the right to refuse a search of your private belongings, unless you signed a paper claiming otherwise, they have no right to do so.
