I was in an accident about 2 months ago and I've picked up a couple of pounds (10 to be exact). Now the only exercise I can do for now is swimming. Is this effective to lose weight and for how long should each session be, how many times a week?

Sad to say No.
You need to eat less.
Swimming will help but if you eat more because swimming makes you hungry you will not loose any weight.
I swim 1 mile each morning before work and I also restrict my calorie intake.
I use a food diary which I record everything in except water. How much and how many calories.
My air when loosing weight is to consume 1500 calories per day and still to swim a mile a day.
I can then loose 3 or so pounds per week.
Less exercise less calories burnt.
Do not try to eat less than 1500 calories per day as a crash diet will not last.
It mostly depends on how much you weight total. The more you weigh the more you lose. Each session should be about an hour, to an hour and a half, and 3-4 times a week. Also just floating and moving around in the water isn't going to do much then if you where actually do the strokes it will help you burn off some of the fat. I would recommend doing butterfly since it is more of a work out then the other strokes.
Absolutely you can. My wife swims and she loves it. 3 times a week is a good number, 30 to 40 minutes. Swimming is great exercise and easy on your joints too.
Stand up and walk atleast 5 mins after evry 2 hours while working
take a brisk walk before lunch or dinner
If you have a seperate room keep small useful exercise equipment Use those equipment while reading and listening songs
It can be very effective - as long as you also dump the junk food, fast food garbage & sugary sweet soda's, too.
Ask your doctor about length of time & duration. He should be directing your recovery until he releases you for normal activity.
if your lifestyle or career includes a lot of socializing out at dinners or drinks start scheduling workout dates with friends co workers or even clients
use a dash of cinnamon to give fruits such as bananas and melons a richer dessert feel without the sugar
