I worked for a hotel as a housekeeper. A coworker of had been bullying me since the beginning of this year. At first it was glaring at me in a threatening manner, snatching sheets that I was folding from out of my hands, and purposely ramming into me when we passed each other in the hallway. I told one of my supervisors when she began to hide my work materials from me so that I would have to start my day late. Then one day she threw her backpack at my face. Management was told about this incident but they did nothing to rectify the situation. Then a couple of days ago she attacked me as we both entered the laundry room. Human resources and my manger both told me to forget that the situation happened and to return to my daily duties. I was afraid because i thought she would come to my work area and try to attack me again. They refused to remove her from the work site and then they called me abandoning my job because I didn't want to go back on the floor where there were no cameras and I would be working alone. I know that the reason that they didn’t do anything about my coworker is because the manager is the aunt of the coworker’s live-in domestic partner. I don’t think it’s safe for the other workers to have to work around someone who is allowed to be so violent. We used to be really good friends but she started going crazy after she began taking prescription drugs that her mom and friends would send her from PA. I have reason to believe that that may be why she attacked me the last time. Neither of us was given drug tests after the incident although I was told that drug tests would be administered when violence occurred in the workplace. I went downtown and pressed charges against the coworker for assault. They’re saying that I abandoned my job and therefore quit. So I can’t even get unemployment while I search for a new job. Management knew about the bullying but did nothing about it and made it very clear that they did not want me to pursue it any further.
Update:One of the supervisors saw the incident when she attacked me a couple of days ago but I don't know if she will help me because everybody is scared for their jobs right now. The coworker is pretty much allowed to do whatever she wants because she knows she won't get fired. The only other witness the coworkers girlfriend who doesn't live with her. She was actually the one who pulled my coworker off of me but I know she'll probably lie for her.
Also I don't have any written proof. I wasn't made to sign any papers and they refused to take my statements. The incident when she threw her bag at me was caught on camera but I don't know how long they keep the video or if they erased it.
