ok well i cant afford a desktop computer but im on my laptop all the time in one place and its always plugged in to the charger never unplugged so could i just leave it running and it not be damaged?
I use only laptops, I don't like desktops, I find them inconvenient.
Laptops are awesome, were almost at the climax of the technology race and laptops sport enough power to do anything at maxed settings nowadays.
Dont worry about keeping it off or shutting off the power to the battery, once the battery is charged, it wont charge any more, there are microchips built into the battery, the laptop and the laptop charger, there is NO way it can ever overcharge, there are to many failsafes in place.
Dont worry about the battery, dont let it run your life, just make amends with the fact that there is little that you can do to keep the battery more then 5 years, every battery fails in 3-6 years.
Edit:
Where do people come up with these answers?
The power supply, the cord with the big box that connects to your laptop is something called a converter, it stops any power fluctuations from causing any sort of malfunction, when the power goes up, it abosbs it and sents it back up the line, when the power dips for a split second, it has the capacity stored up to compensate, that's what that part is for.
and again, some laptops have trully crappy keyboards, while others have Full size island keyboards that glow in the dark, others are water proof...oh you name it, quite a big subject for me as a matter of fact, I cannot stand laptops with cheep keyboards, it drives me crazy.
Yes you can do plugged into the charger but if you have any voltage up down problem in your room then it is not safe to plugged in. For this you need a voltage stabilizer by which you can be safe on just leaving the charger plugged.
Yes, but maybe you would like full size keyboard and mouse or larger screen. Then you will have desktop. I do not like the keyboards on laptop, I just make too many mistakes.

You should not leave your laptop running for anymore than 6 hours. You could cause some heating damage issues.
You can not do any heavy work in your laptop like desktop. If you use it extremely , set a cooler pad in your laptop.
Sure you can. it won't hurt it but once a week use the battery and drain it fully and recharge it.
Yes. I do this all the time.
