Hello,
I have quite a new computer, a Dell XPS 8500 with an Intel Core i7-3770 processor with a CPU at 3.40 GHz and 24 GB of RAM.
You might think "That sounds like a great computer; I wish I had one of those!"
The unfortunate thing is: it is infected with malware known as Windows 8.
For those of you are not familiar with this unsavoury software, it is found on many new desktop microcomputers posing as a desktop operating system, when it is clearly nothing of the sort.
As I have mentioned previously, I would love to make this computer functional, because of its amazing specifications, of course!
My question is: how can I tell if this computer is capable of running the most venerable operating system ever created, also known as Windows XP?
I have heard that on computers so new as this one is, there may be problems with driver compatibility or something like that, but I'm hoping this is untrue.
Please do not waste your time trying to convince me to switch to Windows 7 or Vista. I know what both of these systems are like already: not terrible, but clearly inferior to Windows XP. (For my needs anyway).
If it is actually impossible to run Windows XP on this new Dell XPS 8500, then I will have to either upgrade my eleven-year-old Dell Dimension 4500 which does run XP (32-bit), but would need a new motherboard and processor.
OR
Install Windows 7 on the new XPS 8500 to dual boot with Windows 8. (It's my family's computer and for completely unknown reasons, there are some who can not only tolerate, but actually like the dumbed-down and oversimplified "system".)
Thanks in advance,
Thomas :)

[ EDIT
The XPS 8500 has a UEFI BIOS, which can switch it to Legacy boot mode. You can therefore install any operating system you desire without jumping through the hoops Carling describes.

The essential problem is to ensure that Windows XP drivers are available for the onboard hardware. Although nothing XP-related is available for the system from Dell, other systems using the Intel H77 chipset have XP drivers. You can use PC Wizard to identify the hardware components, which should make finding drivers easier.

Intel's INF installer includes support for the 7 Series Express chipset.

You are about to learn something new to you, For a start you CAN'T install Xp on a windows 8 system it's locked down water tight, but NOT air tight. If you could install Xp on your system it would not work because there are no hardware drivers for your hardware for Xp,
Jail Break W8
Since W8 was released last October I have been advising W8 system users how to jail break W8. At the beginning I advised users to contact the Manufactures to find out how to turn the Microsoft UEFI secure boot system Off. But it soon came to pass that the Manufactures refused to tell their customers how to turn off saying that they were under contract with Microsoft not to divulge that information to the consumers,
Next I told the W8 users to take their computers back to the stores they bought the computer from and ask them to turn the UEFI security boot system off, and install W7 or demand their money back, if their request was not met, Some exchanged for windows 7 systems some got a refund.
What you do is up to you.
Now the real exciting part of my advice, Things have changed since last October, now you can Jail break that Malware operating system as you call it without turning the UEFI secure boot Off. You can install the worlds fastest free up to date May 2013 operating system. First I would like you to visit this website and take the tour of the operating system If you like what you see then you can download it, At the same time there are other Free Linux operating systems that will make your Intel Core i7-3770 processor with a CPU at 3.40 GHz and 24 GB of RAM.Fly Visit these web Links below this will give you some Idea of what your missing
Then you can click on my name and message me and I will advise you which one will suite you the best,
No, Windows XP won't work. Windows 8 computers come with a newer firmware called UEFI instead of the BIOS that PCs have been using since the original IBM-PC in 1982. Windows XP doesn't support UEFI.
Unfortunatly you can't, that's why when you apply for the same computer with Windows 7 you pay extra, because with Win7 you can format and do whatever you want, but with W8 it's like you said, a malware. There is an option I was told to deactivate on bios to be able to format Win8, I tried it but nothing happened.
I wish I could help
Luck
I agree completely that XP is far superior. The only thing that would be a hitch is that XP does not support DirectX 10 which newer video cards are now using
Sure, just run XP in a virtual machine using VirtualBox or VMware Player.
