Is Epilepsy a disease or a problem? According to me it is not a disease as all the parts are doing their job even during the attack and so it is a problem. The docs know the reason why it happens. But there is wrong notion among the people that it is a disease. Can someone clarify whether it is a disease or a problem? By the by I am not a doctor but I am an epileptic. I know what it is and what happens to me during the attack of course from my wife.

It's a disorder. A disease would be something you can transmit, and calling it a disease would infer that you "caught it" somewhere- which is not the case, as epilepsy is genetic. Granted, there are diseases that can cause seizures... but the differences are obvious.
being epileptic is a problem some kids grow out of it whereas some never do... it can cause brain damage depending on how serious the seizure is and some ppl dont convulse or anything ... it more of an incovience than anything u can still function some ppl cant drive tho but there is medicine that can make it not happen as much or as bad,...
Generally considered a disorder/condition. It is NOT always hereditary, and there are hundreds of ailments that can produce seizures.
Epilepsy, by definition, is a short-circuit in the brain.

I am epileptic too. Im pretty sure it is a disease because it is a problem with the brain and they do not have a cure, sadly.
i think its due to the fact that its a genetic problem.
my mom's father was epileptic and a teacher said, its usually a genetic thing that is passed down. though neither me or my mom have had it, its possible my kids could if i had any.
its not so much a disease as its as genetic deficiency
Both is possible: a symptom (esp. in children) or a real disease.
