Yes, they can. They do this to get your attention and/or alert you to something. If you anger them, they will do this. If you are trying to get them to send you a sign, they might do this. If they want you to know they are there, they will do this. Sometimes people feel a pressure on their bodies when a spirit is present, it's not that the spirit tries to do this, it's just the body's reaction. They can also make you light headed and even give you chills or hot flashes.

However, be aware that not all spirits are just lost souls looking for "the light". If it is a larger physical weight, like one you cannot move under or it feels suffocating, then it is most likely an angered spirit or an unfriendly one, if it is extremely aggressive it could be a demonic presence. If this is the situation, you need to either get rid of it yourself or have someone come in and do it for you. Go to a local church and ask a Preacher or Priest to do it for you, however, I do not recommend Catholics as they will most likely just say you are bringing it upon yourself with the lifestyle you live.
