i have over 100 chickens and my little boy wants to be able to tell the difference between his and the other ones... and he wants to pierce the comb on the chicken... can you do that?
I think the chicken should be marked some other way. The other birds in the flock will peck and torment the chicken with his comb pierced . Try some finger nail paint on his beak instead.
I use leg bands...they have colored plastic ones or metal ones that are numbered....they also have wing bands. If you pierce their comb the others would peck at it (esp. if its shiny) then when they get the taste of blood then they continue to peck and peck until it basically dies...sorry but its true. So best of luck.. Hope this helps =)
I wouldn't do that. If you need something visually marking the chicken, then maybe you could put something around it's foot, like they do to mark wild birds.
