Our diaper pail finally bit the dust after almost 6 years. I'll need to be purchasing a new one. Any recommendations? If you wouldn't mind adding some pros and cons about the one your recommend it would be appreciated. Thanks!

We've been using the Diaper Dekor + for nearly 3 years now, and I highly recommend it. It works like a regular trash can, with a foot pedal to open the top. It requires its own refills, but they are not very expensive and last a long time. Ours really doesn't smell, except when you open it to take the diapers out. I spray it down with Lysol whenever we change the bag.
I too found the plastic bags in the diaper genie to be a pain in the neck. Spend more time fighting with them We actually just used a regular pail with a snap on lid. It was the only thing that did not smell once the lid was on. I would also take a paper towel, and put a few drops on lavender oil on it and throw it in the pail, to make it a little nicer when I had to quickly toss a diaper in. Our pail was an old laundry soap pail, so I bought some cute knack tack and put it on the outside. Anyway that is what works for us. Cheap too.
I used the Diaper Genie when my kids were babies, and I liked it because it wraps the diapers up in plastic so they don't smell, even when you take them out. The only thing I didn't like was that if you don't do it right, they won't twist like they are supposed to (it sort of twists after each diaper, making it kind of look like a string of linked sausage when you take it out) and then it doesn't keep them from smelling as good as it's supposed to. Also, because it does use a lot of plastic to wrap the diapers, it's really not very good for the environment.
We used the Diaper Genie with our oldest, and it was OK. We didn't have a huge problem with odor, but it was cumbersome to use because you had to use both hands to dispose of a diaper. Plus, it was difficult to change out the liners.
With our youngest, we purchased the Dekor Plus - I love it. It allows for hands-free disposal (you can use the foot petal to open the lid) and there's no odor at all. Changing the liners is much simpler with this model, as well.
I have heard great things about the diaper champ and recently bought one for my 2nd baby due on the 21st! My best friend has one and its great because you can get rid of the diaper with only one hand, it contains the smell, and best of all you can use any garbage bags so you are not wasting money buying special bags.
I find them to be a waste of money. We used a diaper genie with my first child, and it wasn't worth it in my opinion. We used to recycle the plastic bags the newspapers came in and threw our diapers in those, tied them off and right outside to the trash.
the diaper genie is good
