I want to travel at the beginning of october but i can only find something around 700$/800$ which of course is way to expensive!
any tips?
Update:Oh yes; i can see my question wasn't clear.
I'm in Montreal right now. I want to catch a bus to Boston. From there catch a plane to Cancun or Mexico City (whatever is the cheapest). From Cancun or Mexico City, depending on where I go first, go to Taxco or San Cristobal de las Casas

What is your starting point? If you are starting from somewhere in the U.S., the most of that is for the U.S. trip. If you start in a border town... the Mexican buses are far cheaper than that. There are many Mexican bus lines and the prices are usually within pennies of each other...there is never a large difference in price between one line and another. If you start in McAllan, TX...you will love the station there. It is new, clean, all staff speak Spanish and English. They will help you find the best route and bus for your trip, and there are buses leaving for all parts of Mexico all day. You must go thru Mexico City and change buses there. there are 4 huge bus stations there an you need to be sure to know which station your bus from McAllan is arriving at and what station you need to be in to get the bus to San Cristobal (probably the one called TAPO.) There are shuttle buses from one station to the other. You can take an ETN bus from McAllan to Mexico City for 884 ($69.35 usd) pesos , then an ADO bus to San Cristobal for 1080 ($84.73 usd) pesos. The first trip is 14 hours an the 2nd is 13 hours long. Some of the bus lines have websites, but they are difficult to use especially if you are not used to them and do not speak Spanish, and change often. Your best bet is to go to McAllan and ASK. Sometimes the bus you need does not come into McAllan and you need to go to the station in Reynosa, across the border to get the bus. There is a bus that takes you from station to station for $2.00. They do NOT stop to get you a tourist card unless you tell the driver you need to do that. Best to get your tourist card at the nearest Mexican consulate in the U.S. before you leave. There is no way to do this trip without going thru Mexico City. There are baggage guys there to help you with your bags...tip WELL and they will help you find where you need to be to get your ticket to San Cristobal...they will show you where you can wait, and watch your stuff while you go to the restroom...just ask for help and tip very well. Do NOT buy bus tickets for Mexican buses from some place in the U.S.! You will need to take a Greyhound to McAllan ( if you decide to travel from there.) What i did a couple of years ago...since I found Greyhound to be filthy and gross in the extreme, was, I checked on Craigslist for a ride from my city to TX and luckily got a great one...was faster, cleaner, more pleasant and cheaper. Look on Craigslist and post a note there too and you may be able to get a ride and share gas money. If you cannot find a ride to McAllan...take one to Austin or San Antonio , then take a Greyhound from there...it is bearable for that distance. ADO also goes to Cancun if you decide to do that. Good luck.
