Sorry that it's long but um ..
I'm 15 years and I live in Chicago, Illinois. For a week in June, my 20 year old cousin and I will be flying out to Los Angeles, California.
I haven't been on a plane for about 8 years, so I don't really recall what you need.
Since we're travelimg in the state, what is it that you need to have, in order to have your flight? I know you need a plane ticket, obviously. It isn't necessary to show a passport (don't have one.) Because that's for flying out of the country, correct? I think you need a state I.D, I'm not really sure what you need. I would really like to know because I've called Midway Airport and they didn't give me info. One told me to go to tsa.gov but I don't get it, lol. I was born here, in the United States, Chicago, & so was my cousin. I would like to know what I need so I can ask my mom for my state I.D if necessary because I'm not sure where it is, so I can either get a new one.
Thanks to those who answer! x

According to TSA.GOV Adult passengers (18 and over) are required to show a U.S. federal or state-issued photo ID in order to be allowed to go through the checkpoint and onto their flight. See the site for acceptable forms of ID: http://www.tsa.gov/traveler-information/acceptable...
Since you will be flying with an adult (your 20yr old cousin) you will not be considered an "unaccompanied minor".
If your flight originates in Chicago and you are going to California, you will not need a passport.
The information you recieved from the airport is correct. All this info can be found at TSA.GOV
If you have questions about your flight, you can also go to the website of whatever airline you are flying. Most of your questions can be answered there. If not, call the 800 number for your airline.
As far as what to bring? Other than your ticket, I'd bring a small pillow and blanket, a good book, and some snacks. I like candy bars, cheese and crackers, that sort of light weight and easy to pack stuff. You can't bring any sodas. But once you get past security you can purchase food at the restaurants in the airport to bring on board. Food on the flight is pricey. (Unless you're flying first class!) I think the last time I bought something it was a $5 cookie. And it wasn't all that good. Gave me heartburn.
Travel light. I have a roller-board carry-on and then my Jansen backpack, and everything fits just fine. If you're going on vacation, be sure to leave room in your luggage for stuff you're going to bring back!
Another thought. For inflight food, some airlines only accept cash. Others only accept plastic. Check with your specific airlines website for further info on that!
Have fun!
Try calling the AIRLINE, not the AIRPORT. Since you're flying out of Midway, you'll probably be on Southwest, so food will just be a rumor. Load up at a White Castle before you go.
Your flight series will PROBABLY stay within the US, so you won't need a passport. Having an ID would be a good idea, though.
They issue state ID's at 15 in IL? News to me.
A copy of your birth certificate would be useful, along with school ID.
