Depression is manifested both physically and emotionally. The classic physical signs of depression are headaches, fatigue, digestive problems, hyperactivity, sleeping disorders, loss of concentration, and distorted eating patterns.
Chemicals imbalances in the brain can also be either the cause or effect of depression. Dopamine is the chemical that produces anxiety, stress, nervousness, and aggression. When the level of dopamine is ELEVATED, a person may develop feelings of insecurity, paranoia, and fear. Serotonin is another important chemical in the brain that can affect a person's mental well-being.
A person with LOW serotonin levels displays mood swings, and some sort of compulsion, such as alcoholism, overeating, or being a workaholic, perfectionist, or procrastinator.
Best ways to beat depression is Diet, Exercise, Supplements or Therapy.
Its essential to get the B-complex vitamins, since they work together to balance proper brain functioning.
Fatty acids, such Omega-6, Omega-3.

St. John's wort (Hypericum perforatum in Latin) is a long-living plant with yellow flowers. It contains many chemical compounds.
You can't tell easily... try seeing a doctor and ask them to sit and talk to you or who ever it is before giving drugs to 'solve the problem'. Try getting second and third opinions... sometimes the depression is caused by hormones, try that, but remember.. teens are still growing and changing and it is just life.
Yahoo/google both and compare your symptoms to the known symptoms I really like the Medline Plus site, they have an encyclopedia, and a Medication site.
Having said that, Planned Parenthood is a good resource that is free and available to teens and have excellent other resources.
Neither of these named problems are really good self help projects. Educate your self a little before you go but do go see a proffesional......pls

Hormones you'll probably feel stressy and teary, but with depression you'll just not have any will to actually wanna do anything, it'll be hard to just do things and you'll feel low for days on end. Whereas with hormones it's just a temporary low then you'll be happy again, with hormones the moods just change alot in girls especially.
there are a lot of different symptoms that come along with depression but i dont feel like listing them. if you think youre depressed, see a professional. i have been since i was 12, im 17 now and i sought help and im all better now. its not worth going through all those years miserable.

Talk to them. If that is not possible, get them some help professionally.
I would caution you to be slow to medicate teens. Drugs are not the "cure all" for teens problems.
Talking to them fixes lots of things. If you don't have a pattern of talking to them, it will be difficult to start.
Everyone is different, you can't just say a blanket statement and have it hold true for everyone.
its veryyy hard to tell. i suggest seeing a professional, not asking people on yahooanswers.
