First off, clown loaches actually get quite big, but grow extremely slowly. But indeed, you need to get three more, in order for them to establish a pecking order. I would buy a nice 55 gallon for them, and be prepared to move up to a 90 in the near future.
loaches can take time to get used to their tank as do a lot of fish! they also only tend to come out when its dark. after some time they do get used to it and can be very active and fun to watch, but thats usually at feeding time, well in my tank anyway.. if your tanks big enough then sure get a couple more! but clown loaches grow huge!
Your tank is great sufficient for some grownup clownloaches, yet, in case you objective to maintain a school, you extremely ought to get a bigger tank. I extremely have individually seen 8" clownloaches! whilst fish commence getting that great, they produce lots greater waste than smaller, greater narrow-bodied fish. Six clownloaches in that length of tank with something may be too taxing on a micro organism colony to maintain up with, and that they might coach too lively of animals for the different fish. in case you have a bigger tank, you should maximum oftentimes shop discus with clownloaches. At this length, you will have no issues. regardless of if, simply by fact the clownloaches get greater beneficial and larger, they might coach too lively, too gregarious for the generally shy discus. In a marginally great tank with sufficient area for fish to truly "layer," your discus may be great, staggering out interior the middle tiers of the tank whilst your clownloaches skim around the backside and each now and then up the climate of the tank.
i have a skunk loach and they are nocturnal, they do not come out very often so this may be your case too my fish do this all the time
