Compaq Presario F500?
I have a problem with starting up my laptop. It turns on for like a 2-5 secs and then dies. During these 5 secs I can hear the fan running. Could you please tell me what the problem is. I hope my data won't be gone. Thanks

Your data is fine--safely tucked away on your hard drive.
It sounds like your laptop is completely failing POST. You likely have a severe motherboard problem, or your ram is dead, etc. Diagnosing problems can often be time-consuming and costly for a laptop. I'd suggest taking the HD out of the laptop and placing it in a different laptop--or ripping the data onto another HD with a PC using a 2.5" HD enclosure via usb
