My computer is really loud on booting up (normally after periods of inactivity ie mornings) it is definetly a hardware issue as it sounds terrible (like a whirring, grinding noise) after 10 minutes in settles down quite a bit, but I was wondering
how easy is is to fit a new fan
what do I have to make sure of when purchasing one (ie voltage etc)
if I take it to a professional do they need to access my hard drive (as I would prefer to keep it passworded)
how much it may cost all together (purchase, getting it fitted)
how long it should take them to fit and for me to get it back
If there is anything else I should know please post it in your answer, the most informative will receive best answer
ps I live in the UK so if you can calculate the price in pounds that would be great, if not thats fine

First of all, I don't think an extra fan would help you reduce the noise. The only place the noise could come is from moving parts in your computer (ie: cooling fan) so you might want to clean those, or take it to a specialist for that.
Now it depends on where you want your fan to be, you can either get a PCI fan (but that would be just for PCI and AGP cards) which you can mount yourself simply with a screwdriver, or in other places which you might need some help for. Don't worry, nobody will even touch the Start button of your computer (except for testing) when mounting a new fan. :)
A PCI card with two fans can range from 8 to 10 British pounds... Nothing to worry about there. :)
Good luck, hope I was of some help! :)
grinding noises could be alot of things.
Fan is a good guess but also could just be a wire hitting the fan, a dirty fan, a cdrom, a floppy drive or your harddrive.
Either way, back up your data and good luck fixing the issue. Sounds like you're not really sure what the problem is and this may require a professional to look at it or a techy friend to crack the case to see and run some diagnostics.
You can either take the power supply out of the computer yourself and see that the fan is replaceable as well as to see what type of power supply you have. A fan making a lot of noise could be that it is so dusty and dirty that you could probably take it out and clean and oil the bearings in it. You may want to see that the fan is still turning though after it quiets down and make sure it has not stopped, otherwise you will be getting into a more complex nature of problems with other areas of your computer. You can order a replacement power supply off of ebay if you choose, as long as you know what supply you currently have. Or just do a search for your specific model computer for power supply. Its actually quite easy when you get right down to it and start doing it. goodluck
Well, as you discovered, you most likely do not wish to only quit the lovers. That's unhealthy, mmkay? If you're fortunate, this could repair it. As a fan will get soiled/clogged with grime, it could possibly spin erratically, and that makes plenty of noise. Get a can of compressed air, spray it round, and blank out the within of your pc, primarily the lovers. That is not a foul notion it doesn't matter what, so customarily valued at the rate of a can of air. If that does not repair it, it'll simply be that you've noisy lovers. You should purchase lovers (and disk drives and so forth) which can be peculiarly supposed to be extra quiet, in case you have the potential to change them in.
Its very easy to fit a new fan - its just a case of using a screwdriver.
Check to see if your system is free from dust inside.
Take a look at padding the inside of the case with sound insulating material (about £5).
just open it and see which fan it is ... theyre generally easy to remove then just locate the same size and fit a new one .. a new fan should be under 5lb ..
