I want to add a headset to my computer so I can talk on Messenger. Does this mean I have to give up my speakers or do I end up swapping plugs to switch back and forth between the two?
Update:From the answers USB seems the way to go. Thank you all for the assistance.
What is a decent webcam for under $75; if there is one. The one I have now is a Logitech [V-uh9], is very old and the video is very grainy.

You don't have to swap or anything, just buy a USB one. Sound will still come out of your speakers in all your applications, as your speakers will be set to default.
In MSN when you go to Setup to configure your headset, you can choose the headphones for calls instead of the speakers.
If you get a USB headset, the sound from whoever you're talking to will come out of the headset and you do not have to swap plugs or give up your speakers or anything like that. However, I do believe that if you listen to music or anything like that while the headset is plugged in, the sound will come out of the head set but its not that big of a deal to just unplug the USB whenever you want to use your speakers.
If you buy a headset it come with two plugs, one for the mic and one for the speakers in the headset. You have the option of just plugging in the mic headset and listening on the speakers (thought this may cause an echo to whoever you are talking to), or you can plug in both and use the headphones to listen.
By the way, the mic input is red and the speaker one is green.
i think that there are two sorts of mic/headphones that you can get.
1. is the usb connection which on my computer means that when i have them connected my speakers don't output anything.
2. is the dual connection with the orange and green, one is sound output one is the input...and i guess if you didn't connect the earphone into it then your speakers should still work.
