Yes, it is definitely a trojan horse, I solved a couple of PC with the same behaviour and found it to ba a new trojan horse. You can download the free Malware scanner from malwarebytes.org.
sounds like you have a trojan virus, some trojan viruses fill your hard drive up by keep copying all the files on the hard drive until it becomes full eventually crashing the system completely

you have it set for backups,i agree with tater...
also it is NOT a virus.ppl don't know the whole definitions of a virus.
