Computer unable to detect SATA?

Alright, so I received a computer(one he'd built himself) from a friend of mine, and he told me that everything was put in place, and all that I needed was to put in a Graphics card, a power supply, and a Harddrive. I'm not the best versed in computers, but I knew enough to plug everything in, Although, I've never actually installed a Hard drive before, so it could be possible the cords are damaged? I mean there wasn't much for me to mess up, it's a two way cord, one goes into the drive port, the other goes into the MB. I also don't even know if I have an OS installed. Anyway, I'm not really sure what to do from here. Any help would be adored. I took a photo of the BIOS information I thought would be useful with my phone,, if it can help in anyway. I'd have asked my friend, but I'd been unable to contact him.

Harddrive is a Seagate SATA 500GB

MB is an ASUS, I don't know the model number I'm afraid though.

If there is anymore information you'd like me to provide, I'll do my best too.
